This map shows just how much (or rather, how little!) we know about our oceans! It was prepared in late 2010 to summarise the current state of our knowledge at the end of the groundbreaking decade-long Census of Marine Life. The coloured dots are half-degree squares where we do have data on life in the ocean. White areas are where we have not studied ocean life – an unexplored majority of the 71 watery percent of the Earth’s surface. (via Vancouver Sun)
